The park has long been a popular area, with daytrippers arriving by ferry in the 19th century and now by car and boat. The park has amenities, a kiosk and is fronted by a netted tidal pool. In 1912 Pier One was officially re-constructed as a cargo wharf and passenger terminal. Prior to the construction of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, passengers would board ferries at Pier One to travel across the harbour to North Sydney.
